RECIPROCAL AND SYMMETRICAL RELATIONS IN IGBO
Abstract
Abstract
The study described the syntactic domain for relating the Igbo reciprocal anaphor to its antecedent. It also examined some reciprocal verbs and showed that these verbs can be used transitively and intransitively. In addition, the study proved that a sub-set of the reciprocal verbs can be used to express a symmetrical relation when they are marked a stative. Such verbs also cease to be symmetrical when they are distinguished for the progressive, future or perfective aspect.
