Listening is fundamental to the four language skills. In order to master the other language aptitudes, language learners must listen with understanding. Most Nigerian students use indigenous languages in their daily activities. Teachers of English language should apply a variety of strategies to teaching listening. These techniques includes: language teaching games and contests; radio, television and video programmes; verbal directions; instructions or commands; conservation; dictation; music; aural differention; and extensive listening.
