Principally, the 6-3-3-4 system of education aims at educating the individual to be self reliant. Self-reliance involves ability o provide for one’s self. The programme was meant to make an individual useful to himself and the society. It aims at reinforcing self-reliant education, the object of 9-3-4. Nigerian education policy aims at making the citizens entrepreneurs. This is because of the prevalence of unemployment in the present day Nigeria, resulting o an upsurge of anti-social behaviour in Nigeria. This paper discusses the role of English language in ensuring self-reliant education. It also examines the constraints on English language in the quest for self-reliant education
